Jay Chou's next role is a Slam Dunk

Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou has agreed to play the lead role in a live-action "tribute" to the Slam Dunk manga. NBA star Yao Ming will also make a cameo appearance.

The film will be directed by Chu Yin-Ping and produced by Taiwan's Chang-Hong Channel Film & Video Co. Ltd.

Chang-Hong Channel president Wu Dun recently turned down a financial offer from a Hong Kong company and has asked the Taiwanese government to share the production costs of US$10 million.

Wu also said he would ask Korean singer BOA to play Jay Chou's girlfriend, and that he has been in contact with choreographer Ching Siu-Tung (The Curse of Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers, Hero). Hong Kong's Centro Digital (The Promise, Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) will handle CG effects. Shooting is scheduled to begin in 2007.
